Last week, Tycho Vermeulen and I had the privilege of visiting Tulima Farms, an extraordinary agricultural gem that is revolutionizing Egypt's food security and sustainability efforts. The company is is part of Dutch funded program SASPEN and it's an inspiring example of successful Climate-Smart Hydroponic Farm in Egypt! 🌿✨ Seifeldin Salama and Zeina Salama, along with their visionary father, embarked on a mission to create innovative greenhouses using local resources and cutting-edge research. Their dedication and passion have yielded stunning results. Not only do they provide high-quality, safe food to our local market, but they are also pioneering the cultivation of exotic fruits right here in Egypt! 🍍 When Seif shared with us that they believe in the power of the word 'nothing is impossible,' our hearts were filled with inspiration. 💪 Their determination to save water, enhance livelihoods, and foster eco-friendly agriculture have led Tulima Farm to grow from humble beginnings in Beheira governorate to a sprawling 25,000 square meter, data-driven, climate-controlled haven of productivity. 🌿 This journey towards success would not have been possible without collaboration, and Tulima Farm has partnered with remarkable Dutch companies like Priva, among others. Together, they are pioneering best practices and developing innovative solutions that shape the future of farming. 🤝🌍 But what impressed us the most was their commitment to giving back. Tulima Farm is eager to train and equip fresh graduates with the technical skills they need to join the agricultural revolution. 🌱🎓 Really proud to have such an exceptional example right here in Egypt. Bumblebees 🪷🐝🐝🐝 In 1988 the bumblebee was discovered to be the best pollinator for tomatoes due to its unique ’buzz’ pollination technique. Before this discovery, tomatoes were pollinated manually, which was labour-intensive and less efficient. Within 3 years, the application of bumblebees in tomatoes became the global standard. From 1993 on, bumblebees were successfully tested in various other crops showing benefits as commercial pollinators. Nowadays, bumblebee pollination is applied in over a hundred different crops worldwide. The video was shot in Tulima Farms #koppert #Bumblebees #hydroponics #IPM #BiologicalPestControl
